Advent Devotional – Week 1, Day 1 - Hope for the Hopeless
Read Lamentations 3:22–26

Reflection
Hope is hard to find when the world feels dark. The book of Lamentations was written in the ashes of loss; Jerusalem destroyed, God’s people exiled, and faith stretched thin. Yet right in the middle of sorrow, a small flame flickers: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases.”
Hope doesn’t come from pretending things are fine. It comes from trusting that God is still good even when they’re not. His mercy renews each morning, not because we’ve earned it, but because His love endures.
If you’re weary this Advent, remember: God’s faithfulness is stronger than your circumstances. The dawn will come.

Prayer
Lord, in the darkness, let Your mercy be my light.
Thank You that Your love never runs out and Your compassion never fails.
Restore my hope today.
Amen.

Questions for Reflection
- Where have you felt hopeless lately?
- How does remembering God’s faithfulness in the past help renew your hope today?
- What would it look like to wait quietly for the Lord this week?
Encouragement for the Week
Even in exile, God was still writing Israel’s story. Even in your struggle, He’s still writing yours. Hold on to the promise that His mercies are new — not once a year, but every morning.
